Frequently Asked Questions

Please read this page before booking your appointment to ensure you are fully informed and the appropriate candidate for this treatment. If you cannot find an answer to your question, please reach out to hello@permanentcosmeticsbillericay.com.

Most adults are suitable candidates for PMU; however, there are some important considerations to ensure the treatment is safe and appropriate for you.

To undergo PMU treatment, you must:

  • Be 18 years of age and over
  • Not be pregnant or breastfeeding (I recommend waiting at least 6 weeks after finishing breastfeeding to have PMU)
  • Be in good general health

Certain medical conditions, medications and skin conditions may affect your suitability. If you have ay health concerns, are undergoing medical treatment, or have a skin condition in the treatment area, please get in touch before booking so we can discuss your individual circumstances.

Possibly. Existing PMU should generally be at least 90% faded before a new treatment can be considered. This is because I want to create the best possible result without being restricted by old pigment, shape or colour.

A consultation will be required to assess your brows, and in some cases removal (by laser or saline solution) maybe recommended.

Yes, all new clients must attend a consultation prior to treatment.

During the consultation, we will discuss your medical history, desired outcome, and any questions you may have. A patch test will be carried out and must be completed at least 48 hours prior to your appointment.

I recommend you attend the consultation wearing your usual brow makeup, as this helps me understand how you like to shape and style your brows.

A £50 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your treatment which is taken at time of booking, with the remaining balance payable on the day of treatment.

Preparing for your appointment is just as important for good healed results.

                                                          2 WEEKS BEFORE:

BOTOX - Botox must be done at least 14 days before (or after) your appointment.

WAXING / THREADING - Don't be afraid to let your brows grow out before your appointment as it is helpful to see natural hair growth. If you decide to have them shaped, please do so at least two weeks prior.

RETINOL - Avoid retinol around the brow area at least one week before your appointment (and during healing) as it can make the skin thinner and cause irritation.

                                                         24  HOURS BEFORE:

ALCOHOL - Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment to minimise bleeding.

CAFFEINE - Recommend you avoid caffeine for 24 hours before your appointment where possible as it can increase sensitivity and blood flow. If you are a regular coffee drinker, try to reduce your intake rather than stopping suddenly.

Most client's find the treatment far more comfortable than they expected. A topical numbing product is used and applied ahead of the treatment.

While everyone's pain tolerance is different, the sensation is typically described as light scratching rather than pain.

Your brows will look darker in the first few days after the treatment because the skin has started its natural healing response. As the light scabs and protective layer starts to form, the brows look darker and thicker than they actually are.

In a typical healing journey:

  • Days 1-4: Brows often appear darker and more defined
  • Days 5-7: Scabbing, flaking and peeling begin
  • Days 14-21: Brows can appear much lighter or 'patchy'
  • Day 28: The colour gradually resurfaces and softens into the healed result

Week 6-8: Top up appointment.

To ensure you achieve the best healed results, for the first 14 days, please:

  • Keep the brow area clean and dry until all flaking has stopped. This means keeping them dry in the shower and avoid sweating, swimming, saunas for the next 10-14 days.
  • Apply a thin layer of your aftercare balm twice a day - morning and evening.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks. I recommend using an spf on your face and brows when on holiday to protect them from premature fading.
  • Avoid facial treatments and applying makeup directly on the treated area.
